Dave Grohl referred to his wife Jordyn Blum as his “future ex-wife” long before he admitted to having an affair and fathering a child “outside” their marriage.
In fact, the 55-year-old frontman of the Foo Fighters gave the 48-year-old Blum this dubious nickname the night they met at the Sunset Marquis whiskey bar in Los Angeles in 2001.
The former Nirvana drummer was at the bar with his late bandmate Taylor Hawkins when a woman flirting with him introduced her boyfriend Blum to Grohl.
The Grammy winner immediately thought she was a size too big for him. “Taylor was the eye-catcher,” Grohl recalled in a 2007 interview with the now-defunct music magazine Q Magazine.
“I’m wearing Vans sneakers, no socks, dirty shorts and a dirty t-shirt, surrounded by beautiful Hollywood.”
When he saw Blum, he thought: “Oh my God. No chance!”
“So I just have a couple of drinks and act like an idiot,” he continued. “And at the end of the night I was pissed and staring at her and thinking, ‘You’re my future ex-wife,'” he said, laughing loudly, according to the magazine.
“So she gave me her number: ‘Jordyn, your future ex-wife.'”
Grohl married the former model and MTV producer two years later, on August 2, 2003, in a ceremony at her LA home.
The couple have three daughters: Violet Maye, 18, Harper, 15, and Ophelia, 10.
In a statement posted on his Instagram account on Tuesday, Grohl admitted to having had an extramarital affair and fathering a daughter “outside” his marriage.
“I recently became a father to a daughter born outside of my marriage,” Grohl revealed. “I plan to be a loving and supportive father to her. I love my wife and children and am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.”
He added: “We are grateful for your consideration for all the children affected as we move forward together.”
A spokesperson for Grohl told the Post that the musician had no further comment.
After Grohl made his announcement, social media users noticed that the rocker’s eldest daughter had deactivated her Instagram account.
It is unclear whether she did this before or after her father’s post was published.
After the first meeting, Grohl did not immediately seek a serious relationship with Blum.
“When I met my wife, we went on a few dates and I decided I wasn’t ready for a serious relationship. So I just stopped calling her,” he admitted to ELLE in 2007.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member eventually changed his mind. “After three months, I had an epiphany and called her back. She picked up the phone and said, ‘Oh, I never thought I’d hear from you again.'”
Before his marriage to Blum, Grohl was married to photographer Jennifer Youngblood from 1994 to 1997.
Grohl and Blum were recently spotted at Wimbledon on July 2, sitting together in the coveted Royal Box on the second day of the tennis tournament – just weeks before he revealed his affair and announced the birth of his new daughter.
