Dave Grohl ruined his relationship with his wife Jordyn Blum years before his ring.
The 55-year-old Foo Fighters frontman ditched Blum after a few dates until his late bandmate Taylor Hawkins’ overdose in 2001 forced him to settle down. Hawkins tragically died of a fatal overdose in 2022 at the age of 50.
This is the latest revelation following Grohl’s brutal admission that he cheated on Blum and had a daughter with another woman.
“I recently became a father to a daughter born outside of my marriage,” Grohl said in a statement on Instagram on Tuesday. “I plan to be a loving and supportive father to her. I love my wife and children and am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.”
“We are grateful for your consideration for all the children affected as we move forward together,” he concluded.
A spokesman for Grohl told the Washington Post that the musician had no further comment.
While Grohl, Blum (48) and their three children, daughters Violet (18), Harper (15) and Ophelia (10), seem to form a united front in the face of the baby bombshell, the musician has not always agreed to become a family man.
In a fabricated interview with Q magazine, Grohl revealed that he stopped calling Blum after just a few dates.
“I met Jordyn one night in 2001. Taylor (Hawkins) and I were hanging out at the Sunset Marquis whiskey bar. Taylor was a real looker. I mean, girls would send him drinks. Some bombshell shows up and starts talking to Taylor. I had just come from a Tenacious D session. I was wearing Vans sneakers, no socks, dirty shorts and a dirty T-shirt, surrounded by beautiful Hollywood,” Growl told the outlet.
“She waved over her friend Jordyn. I was like, ‘Oh my God. No way!’ So I just had a couple of drinks and acted like an idiot. And at the end of the night I was mad and staring at her and thinking, ‘You’re my future ex-wife,'” he laughed. “So she gave me her number: ‘Jordyn, your future ex-wife.'”
While Grohl admitted that they “saw each other a few times” after the encounter, the ex-Nirvana drummer said he quickly realized that she was the end for him and he “backed out.”
When asked if it was because he had been “burned” in his first marriage – Grohl married photographer Jennifer Youngblood in 1994 and divorced in 1997 – the musician replied: “No, because I wasn’t ready for the flag. And then we were in London (in August 2001, before the V-Festival) and Taylor ended up in the hospital. He took drugs and overdosed.”
In 2007, he told Elle: “I wasn’t ready for a serious relationship, so I just stopped calling.”
After Hawkins left the hospital following his overdose in 2001, Grohl said he returned to his hotel room and saw a familiar face on his television screen.
“So, I was sitting there watching pool or something when this commercial for bubble gum came on – this girl who runs through the subway and steals from people. All of a sudden I was like, ‘That’s that girl, Jordyn, that’s that girl!'” Grohl told Q. “And over the course of the next few days, I started having these dreams about the life I’d been thinking about, dreams about settling down.”
The musician said that within two weeks he had “changed forever”.
“I thought, ‘I’m not waiting another minute because life is too damn short, man. It’s too delicate,'” he explained. “The day we got home, I called her and she said, ‘Wow, I never thought I’d hear from you again.’ So I took her to a restaurant right next door. And that was it.”
Grohl and Blum married in August 2003 at their LA home. Their eldest child has deactivated his Instagram account since her father revealed his affair and baby scandal.
Grohl and Blum have shown no signs of problems in their marriage in recent months. They were spotted at the Wimbledon tennis tournament in July, just weeks before his surprise announcement.
