We all know that Denver International Airport is one of the largest airports in the country, but does size mean reliability?

Not always. When I leave Colorado for vacation or to visit friends and family, I am usually relaxed compared to other airports. Whenever I fly, I have a it is what it is mentality and that saved me a lot of time and stress.

I have experienced many flight delays. The reasons for them are understandable, though. They usually happen around the holidays when the weather is rough.

One time, during the holidays, my flight was delayed three times and I didn’t get back to Colorado until 3:00 a.m., even though I was supposed to arrive at 5:00 p.m. the night before.

Denver International Airport is considered unreliable

SOAX compiled flight data and analysis from the Bureau of Transportation and compiled a list of the most unreliable airports in the country. The airports were ranked by the highest percentage of delayed flights.

They found that Denver International Airport is one of the most unreliable in the country. On average, a whopping 24.8% of flights are delayed, the eighth-highest percentage in the country.

24.8% seems high to me personally. But maybe I’m lucky with my travels.

An airport in Colorado is even worse

In the top ten rankings, Aspen/Pitkin County Airport was ranked higher than Denver International Airport, meaning these two airports are even less reliable.

Aspen/Pitkin County Airport has a delay rate of 27.5% and has been ranked the third most unreliable airport in the country.

Visiting an airport is rarely a pleasure. Hardly anyone reports an intellectual experience while going through the TSA or waiting four hours for a connecting flight.

Most of the time, a visit to the airport is just that: a visit to the airport. From time to time, however, problems can arise: a flight is delayed, Starbucks in Concourse A doesn’t serve your coffee at the desired temperature, or the bathroom runs out of paper towels.
