Update from August 19, 2:10 p.m.: Kaua’i County officials report that the Kekaha Landfill is now open.

Update from August 19, 1:20 p.m.: Due to the closure of the landfill, garbage collection at the Hanalei Waste Transfer Station is closed.

However, all other services in Hanalei are available. Updates will be posted when the site reopens.

Update from August 19, 12:30 p.m.: Due to the closure of the landfill, garbage collection at the Hanapēpē waste transfer station is closed.

Update from August 19, 11:30 a.m.: Due to the closure of the Kekaha Landfill, garbage collection at the Kapa’a Waste Transfer Station has also been suspended, according to the Solid Waste Department.

Original post: The Kaua’i County Solid Waste Department has reported the following closures for August 19:

  • Due to an equipment defect, the Līhu’e Waste Transfer Station is closed until further notice.
  • The Kekaha landfill is also closed due to equipment problems.

Updates will be posted when both locations reopen. During this closure, customers may use Kapa’a or Hanapēpē’s waste transfer stations.
