Derrick Henry says Mark Ingram gave the Ravens a head start in free agency

Derrick Henry says Mark Ingram gave the Ravens a head start in free agency

It will be a strange sight for the NFL world to see Derrick Henry in a new uniform for the first time in his professional career on Thursday night. The All-Pro running back signed as a free agent with the Baltimore Ravens in the offseason after spending the first eight years of his career with the Tennessee Titans.

During that time, he led the league in yards twice and in attempts four times. He was a model of consistency and efficiency and now joins a new offense.

He’ll play in the backfield and work alongside quarterback Lamar Jackson, who also has speed and running ability to admire. How it plays out on the field is something history will tell, but the theory of the two having double the running ability can definitely put a defense’s mind in a scary place.

Henry’s decision to enter free agency was influenced at least in part by Mark Ingram II, the former running back who spent two years with Baltimore. Ingram had high praise for the organization and spoke to Sports illustratedAlbert Breer on behalf of Pepsi’s “Make Your Gameday Epic” campaign:

“Everything he said about the organization was great, so you know I really take his opinions and his advice into consideration. That’s like my big brother. … He loved (the Ravens) from top to bottom.”

Just as Ingram gave up his running duties with the Alabama Crimson Tide a few years after leaving college, Henry is now following him to one of his professional stations.
