The Detroit Lions survived overtime against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football and found their way to victory, with David Montgomery scoring a touchdown that secured the 26-20 win.

Montgomery punished the Rams in overtime, finishing the game with 17 carries, 91 yards, and a touchdown.

Jared Goff, who signed a four-year, $212 million contract extension in May, didn’t play his best, but he was in top form in the closing stages and led the tying drive in the fourth quarter. Goff never really got into his rhythm and finished the game with 18 of 28 passes for 217 yards and a touchdown.

Matthew Stafford, who was acquired by the Lions in January 2021 and requested a trade, fought through constant pressure from Aidan Hutchinson and the Lions’ front seven while his depleted offensive line did just enough to help him stay clean. Stafford made some incredible throws but couldn’t finish the Lions off by picking up a first down late in the fourth quarter.

For the second time in as many meetings, the Lions and Goff had the last laugh, defeating the Rams after beating them in the NFC playoffs last year.
