Detroit Lions vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Detroit Lions vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers

After a thrilling overtime win in the season opener, the Lions return to Ford Field on Sunday for a Week 2 duel against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

This is the second straight week the Lions will face an opponent from last year’s postseason, when they beat the Buccaneers 31-23 last season to earn their first NFC Championship appearance in over 30 years. They are already 1-0 in playoff rematches this season, having beaten the Rams 26-20 last week.

Carlton Davis III played for the Bucs in that playoff game, but is now a new member of the Lions’ secondary after an offseason transfer. Davis doesn’t see the game against his former team as a revenge game, but he already has experience defending wide receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin from practice sessions in Tampa Bay. Davis had a solid debut game against the Rams, finishing second in team total tackles with 10.

There could be a change in Detroit’s offensive line, as Penei Sewell missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday with an ankle injury and may not play. If he is indeed benched against the Bucs, it would be only the second game he has missed since making his professional debut in 2021.
