DALLAS – Airports across the country and in North Texas are preparing for one of the busiest Labor Day weekends ever.

The Transportation Security Administration expects more than 17 million people to pass through airports this weekend, and officials at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field Airport expect the same number of people to pass through.

Love Field is expecting nearly 200,000 passengers at the airport this weekend. Lines were manageable early Thursday morning but are expected to increase throughout the day and weekend.

Fort Worth-based American Airlines said it will serve more than 578,000 customers on nearly 5,000 flights this weekend, an estimated 12% more customers departing from DFW Airport than during the same period last year.

DFW expects 1.4 million passengers at its airport this weekend, up 6.4% from last year.

Friday is expected to be the busiest day across the country and the Metroplex, as the TSA expects 2.86 million people to board a plane on Friday.

The TSA said this summer’s air travel volume is the highest in its history, with 239.8 million people screened since Memorial Day weekend. On July 7, more than 3 million people were screened, a TSA record.

DFW and Love Field advised travelers to arrive two hours early to ensure they do not miss their flight.

Gas is also cheaper in Dallas-Fort Worth this Labor Day weekend – Prices across the state are under $3 per gallon, about 10 cents per gallon cheaper than last weekend.

This weekend’s record price for gasoline was reached two years ago, when it was nearly $5 a gallon.
