Dillon woman seeks help after flooding in her home during Debby

Dillon woman seeks help after flooding in her home during Debby

Tiffany Christian said her family lost everything in flooding during Tropical Storm Debby earlier this month, and she asks if there is anything the county can do to help them.

Aerial photos show Christian’s home on First Avenue in Dillon, surrounded by water.

She said her family had to leave in the middle of the night after floodwaters burst through their house.

“I didn’t know anything about the flooding. This is a low-lying area. If I had known, my children and I would have packed our things and got a room the night before,” said Christian.

Christian said she and her family had been renting the house and were now living in a motel with their four children since the storm soaked their house.

I hope for a new result, a better result. And just be prepared for the next storm. I know that,” said Christian.

Dillon County Councilman Robbie Coward told us that a state of emergency was declared before the storm to recoup all costs incurred due to damage.

Coward said Christian reached out to her and the Dillon County Emergency Management Agency will reach out to Christian to see if there is anything they can do to help her.

However, officials said they were unsure what could be done at this point.
