A quiet place: day one Spoilers follow.

The director of “A Quiet Place: Day One”, Michael Sarnoski, has dealt with the fate of Eric (Joseph Quinn) and the cat Frodo.

The horror film, a prequel and spin-off of the 2018 film, follows terminally ill Samira (Lupita Nyong’o) as she tries to survive an alien invasion of New York City with her loyal sidekick Frodo.

She meets several new faces along the way, and Eric accompanies her on the journey. At the end of the film, Samira sacrifices herself when she passes Frodo to Eric, who is greeted by Henri (Djimon Hounsou) – a character from A Quiet Place: Part II.

Since the narrative ties into the story of the second film, Sarnoski was asked on the ReelBlend podcast if there is a possibility that Eric and Frodo will be spotted on the island at the end of the 2021 film.

“I mean, probably not,” he said. “But my idea is that we don’t meet every single person on the island. We get a pretty brief glimpse into society there. I don’t think Joe Quinn is secretly there.”

“Maybe on the George Lucas re-release we’ll just have a little bit of Joe Quinn hanging around in the background. But no. I mean, maybe? Who knows? Maybe there’s a cat. Let’s say if you see a cat anywhere on this island, it was supposed to be Frodo from the start.”

The screenwriter and director, who made 2021’s “Pig,” recently spoke about a scene from the prequel in which the aliens eat an egg-like creature: “Part of the funny thing about them is that they’re very alien and we don’t quite understand them. So I wanted to point out a few things,” he said.

“I mean, for me, the egg thing is not the focus – I didn’t want to make that scene like, ‘Hey, here’s what’s going on,’ and that’s important because it’s not important to Eric at that point. He’s just trying to save Frodo, and you just get kind of a hint that there’s an ecosystem of these creatures around him.”

A Quiet Place: Day One is in theaters now.
