Do It Best expands its e-commerce product inventory with lumber

Do It Best Corp. is adding a new category to its e-commerce product line: lumber.

The retailer is a member-owned hardware, lumber and building materials cooperative based in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

“Our data showed that lumber was one of the most searched terms on our website, indicating a clear market demand,” said Brianna Wells, director of e-commerce, marketing and merchandising. “Many of our members sell lumber, and we saw an opportunity to increase their sales by targeting consumers who prefer to pre-order online before going to the store.”

Do It Best now offers 1,500 wooden items online.

Do It Best ranks 407th in the Top 1000 database, which is Digital Commerce 360’s ranking of the largest North American online retailers.

“It’s no longer just about convenience,” Wells explained. “It’s about necessity. When customers can’t find what they need online, they’ll go to retailers that offer that information.”

The lumber e-commerce product expansion is part of a larger initiative to increase sales in the lumber and building materials market.

In April, Do It Best hired Eric Knox as its new Director of LBM Sales. Prior to joining Do It Best, Knox served as Director of Sales and Marketing at TekPoint International Corp. and as Regional Sales Manager for Asia at Ace Hardware.

On March 4, Do It Best merged with United Hardware Distributing Co. of Maple Grove, Minnesota, a hardware wholesaler. United Hardware operates a distribution center in Milbank, South Dakota, and has an extensive product line with more than 700 stores in the Midwest.
