Do the astronauts trapped in space have enough food and water?

Do the astronauts trapped in space have enough food and water?

The astronauts aboard the Boeing Starliner could stay in space for several months – but many wonder whether they will have enough food and water to survive that long.

In a recent interview with the Today In the show, former NASA astronaut Mike Massimino explained how the astronauts, who may not return until February 2025, are doing and what they experience during their extended space journey.

“Looking ahead to the next six months, it will require a rethink not only for the crew but also for their families,” Massimino said.

When asked if the astronauts have enough food and supplies to last another six months, Massimino replied, “Yes, they do.”

“They try to think of everything,” he said, referring to NASA. “They do have extra forces up there, but they also have supply ships that go up there. And those supply ships can be pretty full right before launch, so they get supplies there pretty often.”

NASA astronauts Barry “Butch” Wilmore and Sunita “Suni” Williams could be stuck in space aboard the Boeing Starliner until 2025 due to ongoing delays, officials said.

On Wednesday, August 7, the agency held a press conference to provide an update on the status of the two astronauts, who have been in space for 63 days since their launch on June 5 – about seven weeks longer than expected.

The first trip from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station on Florida’s Space Coast should take no longer than eight days, the New York Times reported on Wednesday.

NASA and Boeing are currently debating whether the spacecraft is safe enough to return to Earth or whether they will need to enlist the help of rival Elon Musk by using SpaceX to retrieve Wilmore and Williams and bring them home. Wall Street Journal and CNN reported.

The final decision will be made by WSJ.
