Dog shot in the neck during burglary in Detroit – police search for suspects

Police are still searching for three male burglary suspects who broke into a Detroit home, shot the family dog and fled with money, a Rolex watch and several handbags.

The break-in occurred in broad daylight on Saturday, August 3, at a home on Glastonbury Avenue, near Eight Mile and Southfield Road, according to Detroit police.

Anthony Ross’ dog, a 130-pound Cane Corso named Godiva, lives with him on Detroit’s west side. She was the only one home when the suspects broke in.

Godiva was shot in the neck by the suspects. The bullet broke her jaw and is still lodged near her lung, according to Ross.

“I had to spend quite a bit of money to save her life,” he said. “They broke the window, climbed through my window, came into my house and shot my dog. But I was able to get her jaw repaired — that will probably cost about $3,500.”

Anthony was afraid to show his face on camera for fear of revenge.

His neighbor, Alton, said he was also scared. The vehicle the suspects fled in, a stolen black Chevy Silverado, was captured on video right outside his home.

Alton said he didn’t recognize the truck.

According to Detroit Police, the vehicle’s license plate number is ELP 4398.

Police are now asking anyone with information to call the DPD’s Eighth Precinct at 313-596-5840, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP or DetroitRewards.tv. A $500 reward is being offered.

“I’ve had (Godiva) since she was a baby, so she’s like my daughter,” Ross said.
