Parton grew up in a family of twelve and could hardly wait to eat dinner because there was always a lot of activity at the table.

“At home, food was always the best thing and we put a lot of it into this book,” Parton said. “We all just loved to sing and we loved to sing in the kitchen.”

The sister duo highlights dishes like chocolate cake with meringue, fried green tomatoes with ranch dressing, strawberry pie and cornbread dressing in their new book. Parton cited meatloaf as her favorite meal, while George, who has a penchant for sweet things, said strawberry pie was her favorite.

George described working with all her relatives as “a great pleasure.”

“We looked into our family history and learned things that some of us didn’t know. Then Dolly was able to sing with a lot of our relatives who helped out,” George said. “It was really great and it brought us all together.”

The album will be accompanied by a four-part documentary series, scheduled for release in 2025, featuring concert performances filmed at Knoxville’s historic Bijou Theater, featuring Parton and her family from the record.

“We’re very proud of it,” Parton said. “It takes our musical heritage back to the 19th century, and Rachel and I have a song on this album that she wrote. She’s a great singer and songwriter and a great guitarist.”
