Don’t get hacked! Use Chrome’s Security Checkup to protect your passwords now!

Billions of people are online every day, communicating with each other and exchanging data. Many of them prefer Google Chrome as their default browser. To ensure the security of users’ data, Google has built in the function Security check in its browser to notify users when their passwords or data have been compromised.

Now all login details entered through Google Chrome can be automatically scanned by Chrome for signs of hacking or security breaches. The browser also provides guidance on the quality of passwords used for different accounts and how often the same password is used.

To verify your login information in Google Chrome, follow these steps:

1) Open the Google Chrome browser and click on the three dots option at the top right of the page to open the menu.

2) Select Settings from the given options.

3) Click on Privacy and settings to open the further options.

4) Above under the heading Security check(available at chrome://settings/safetyCheck) click on Check now to cause Google Chrome to scan all credentials entered using this browser for signs of violation.

5) Once the scan is complete, the browser will display all potentially weak, compromised and frequently reused passwords.

6) If you see any of the above warnings, click on it and change the password to save your account.

The mobile version of Google has a slightly different interface, so follow these steps to enable Google Chrome to perform the security scan for threats:

1) Click on the three dots option at the top right of the page to open the menu.

2) Select Settings from the specified option.

3) Scroll down and select Security check under the heading Basics.

4) Tap Passwords stored in the email address to detect if your credentials have been compromised.

5) If you have used a weak password, reused a password too many times, or one of your passwords has been compromised, all passwords will be listed there.

6) Tap any of the alerts that appear to view the websites whose password it is and to change the password directly.

To protect your login credentials, do not use the same password for all your accounts. Change the compromised password and replace a weak password with a strong one. It is always recommended to change your passwords every six months.
