Donut shop in Las Vegas closes after short but beautiful six months

Just six months after opening a second location, a family-owned doughnut shop has gone out of business. The Donut Hole by Carl’s Donuts opened a downtown location earlier this year. On Monday, August 19, it was announced on Instagram that the shop would be closing.

Family-owned Carl’s Donuts (3170 Sunset Road Suite F) has been frying and glazing simple maple syrup-coated bars, sweet twists and glazed doughnuts in Las Vegas near Sunset Road and Eastern Avenue since the 1960s. The shop’s doughnuts are reliably fluffy, sweet and fresh — good enough to make them an iconic Las Vegas staple.

Carl’s Donuts opened the Donut Hole (124 South 6th Street) near Fremont Street in February of this year, taking over the space of the former San Diego Donut Bar, which had served top-notch donuts for seven years. The Donut Hole was redecorated with bold black, red and white accents and neon signs. The menu featured the classics as well as new dishes — like chocolate crumb cake, cinnamon rolls with brûlée, glazed donut holes, croissants and yuzu-passion fruit “croughie” hybrids. While the shop was closed two days a week, its hours were extended late during the summer, serving donuts until 2 a.m. Thursday through Sunday.

A spokesperson confirmed the shop has closed effective immediately. The Original Carl’s Donuts will remain open for all your donut needs.
