NEWARK, NJ — United States Attorney Philip R. Sellinger today announced the indictment of four Essex County, New Jersey men for their roles in the armed robbery of a U.S. Postal Service employee and related offenses.

Troy D. Corbett Jr., 28, Dyshawn Williams, 28, and Antwuan Brown, 24, all residents of Newark, are charged with conspiracy to commit robbery under the Hobbs Act. Corbett and Williams are additionally charged with assault or obstructing a federal officer with a deadly weapon. Brown and Karieem Stamps, 25, are also charged with wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. In addition, Corbett is charged with possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense. Stamps was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The incident occurred in November 2023, when Corbett and Williams, along with another individual, robbed a Newark postal worker at gunpoint and took personal items, including a credit and debit card. Those cards were subsequently used by Stamps and Brown to make unauthorized purchases through servers outside of New Jersey, constituting wire fraud.

On January 18, 2024, a significant amount of methamphetamine and a firearm were found on Corbett. On the same day of her arrest, August 1, 2024, a firearm and ammunition were discovered on Stamps.

The defendants were arraigned, with Corbett, Williams and Stamps appearing before U.S. Magistrate Judge Leda Dunn Wettre in Newark and Brown appearing before U.S. Magistrate Judge David Keesler in North Carolina. All four men were remanded in custody pending trial.

The legal consequences of these charges are severe, with maximum sentences ranging from 15 to 30 years in prison for the various charges, including a mandatory five-year sentence for possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug offense, which must be served consecutively to the other sentence.

This case highlights the ongoing efforts of U.S. law enforcement to combat violent crime and protect federal employees.
