Driver swears off Enterprise after nearly being cheated

Driver swears off Enterprise after nearly being cheated

A woman says she will never rent from Enterprise Rent-a-Car again – or rent a car for that matter – after claiming the car rental chain tried to scam her.

In a now-viral nine-part TikTok series posted by Meleah (@msmeleah), she recounts renting a Toyota for a dance competition one weekend in March, but returning it a day early because of a snowstorm.

At the end of her lease, she says, she parked the car in Enterprise’s return area as instructed and picked up her fiancé’s truck, which she drove to the dealership.

Things are taking a turn

However, she says she received a call from the rental car company a few weeks later claiming the car’s bumper was barely holding up and she was accused of causing an accident.

Meleah says she went back to Enterprise and saw the car in the same parking lot, undamaged. She confronts the dealer, who tells her a third-party dealer will come by to look at the vehicle and verify its condition.

The TikToker says she didn’t hear any news for months, but in June she received a letter from her fiancé’s insurance company saying Enterprise had filed a claim. She notes that she doesn’t have the same insurance as her fiancé, so she thought it was a scam.

“I didn’t give them any insurance information. And I certainly didn’t give them my fiancé’s insurance information,” says Meleah. Days later, she receives a second bill from Enterprise for $2,000.

Over the next few weeks, Meleah spoke with several representatives from Enterprise and her fiancé’s insurance company to find out why Enterprise had sent her a bill and filed a claim with her fiancé’s insurance company.

Meleah says she contacted her fiancé’s insurance company, who admitted they “see this kind of thing all the time with car rental companies,” citing fraudulent claims and double billing. The insurance agent explained that it wasn’t technically illegal for Enterprise to file a claim with her fiancé’s insurance company — noting that they probably checked the plates on her fiancé’s truck — but it was undoubtedly shady.

It’s getting worse

She says she spent weeks calling various insurance and Enterprise representatives, but they made no progress on her case. However, shortly after calling Enterprise, she received a call from the claims department telling her her claim had been dropped.

However, she said when she asked the representative to call her fiancé’s insurance company to drop the claim, the representative replied, “We don’t do that,” and instructed her to send them a letter saying the claim had been dropped.

“Wow, I never had to provide photos of the proof,” says Meleah. “They’re just trying to find someone who’s afraid of it and is willing to pay that money.”

On July 8, Meleah released a final clip showing that she received the letter from Enterprise stating that her claim had been dropped four months after the saga began.

Viewers react

In the comments, viewers talk about their own dark experiences with “Enterprise.”

“I had a very similar experience with Enterprise, fought it to the end and won. I will no longer rent from this company and always take photos before and after renting a car,” writes one.

“Enterprise did the same thing to me. No damage and I’m on the do not rent list, head shakes. FOR NOTHING. They could never prove it. String me along, head shakes,” says another.

“I’ve been following the whole journey. I also had a terrible experience with Enterprize. I think we need to call a national boycott,” adds a third.

Others are calling on the founder to contact the Attorney General because by sharing her experiences she may have uncovered a larger system of shady business practices.
