Drivers are stranded after buying substandard gasoline at the Valero gas station in east El Paso

A Valero gas station at Gateway Boulevard West and Lomaland Drive in east El Paso is accused of selling gasoline that damaged several vehicles on Tuesday.

Several drivers complained that their cars stopped working after visiting the gas station on Tuesday morning.

“Three blocks away, the SUV stalled and wouldn’t go any further,” said Maribel Garcia, one of those affected. “We thought it was my vehicle, but when we came back, we saw that there were more people involved. There were five of us, but then more people came back and then there were ten of us.”

Garcia’s car broke down near the train station and a passerby helped her.

“She was stranded in the middle of the road, so I just stopped and helped her get out,” said Aeriana Olivas.

They should at least try to help them by refunding them the money they spend on repairing their cars.

In a statement from Klemme Enterprises, which owns the Valero site, it said in part: “We immediately shut down our gas pumps and bagged each one to prevent anyone else from getting gas. We are working to resolve the issue.”

Klemme asked those affected to call 915-519-7593 or email [email protected].

Likewise, the state agency responsible for regulating these issues – the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation – has provided a fact sheet for people who believe they may have received tainted gasoline.
