Drivers were stranded after more than 10 cars filled up at the same gas station in Bethlehem Twp., police say

According to police, several cars broke down Tuesday morning after their drivers all filled up at the same gas station in Bethlehem Township.

Township police Captain Shaun Powell told lehighvalleylive.com the incident occurred along Freemansburg Avenue shortly after 11:15 a.m. Officers were initially dispatched to report of stalled vehicles near the Raceway gas station at 3608 Freemansburg Avenue, he said.

Along the way, officers spotted more than 10 vehicles stranded along Freemansburg Avenue and adjacent streets, Powell said. All of the drivers reported purchasing only a certain amount of gas at the Freemansburg Avenue race track, he said.

The vehicles were towed and the gas station’s pumps were blocked with traffic cones until the Northampton County Department of Weights and Measures investigates the incident, Powell said.

The investigation is still being conducted by the Pennsylvania Department of Weights and Measures, Brittney Waylen, deputy administrator for Northampton County, told lehighvalleylive.com.

“The gas station will remain closed until the state can conduct testing and the results come back normal,” she said Tuesday afternoon. “Testing will be done tomorrow morning. It may take two weeks for the results to come back.”

A Raceway representative did not immediately respond to a request for information Tuesday afternoon.
