ATLANTA, Georgia (Atlanta News First) – MARTA trains will not serve Brookhaven Station for just over a month for repairs, the transit authority announced Wednesday.

From October 7 through November 15, trains will not stop at the station, but the rest of the Gold Line will continue to operate as scheduled. MARTA will offer bus shuttles from Brookhaven and Lenox Station to the south and Brookhaven and Chamblee Station to the north. The station’s parking lot and tunnel access will also remain open.

Workers are replacing the 40-year-old pavers on the platform. The station will receive a new tiled floor, tactile warning strips on the platform edges, and benches and trash cans. The concrete will also be pressure cleaned, sealed, and given a graffiti-resistant coating.

MARTA said the six-week pause will cut the overall construction time by nearly two years and reduce costs by $9 million — and that more work will be done in the future. The station will eventually get a renovated concourse, a new canopy, improved signage and SMART restrooms.

The $13 million Brookhaven Station project is part of the $1 billion station renovation program that will modernize all 38 MARTA stations.
