Eagles player DeVonta Smith’s helmet flies off after ‘dirty’ hit in scary scene against Saints

Eagles player DeVonta Smith’s helmet flies off after ‘dirty’ hit in scary scene against Saints

This time, the Philadelphia Eagles came away with a late win, but they had a scary moment with their star receiver DeVonta Smith, who lost his helmet and left the game with a concussion.

Smith caught a pass from Jalen Hurts in the second half when several New Orleans Saints players pushed him for a tackle but were initially unable to bring him down.

As they continued to try to take him to the ground, Smith was still kicking his legs when defensive lineman Kristian Boyd hit him from the side in a helmet-to-helmet scene, ripping Smith’s helmet off his head.

It was a scary situation where there was no flag on the field for helmet-to-helmet contact, which sparked anger among fans on social media who believed it was a “dirty” hit. Some also felt Smith should not have been involved in this incident in the first place, as he only moved forward by running backwards and the other Saints tried to tackle him.

Smith was seen lying on the turf after taking a blow to the head, and he remained there for several minutes while players and coaches knelt on the field, hoping that everything would be OK.

Smith walked to the sideline under his own power and was later examined for a concussion.

The “Slim Reaper,” as he is known to Eagles fans, left the game with 79 yards on seven catches.

This is a significant injury for Philadelphia, who went into this game without AJ Brown at receiver for the second week in a row as he battles a hamstring injury.

It’s too early to say whether Smith will pass the NFL’s concussion protocol and be ready for next week’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team that beat them in last year’s wild-card game.

With Smith out, Hurts relied on other receivers like tight end Dallas Goedert, who led the game with 170 yards on 10 catches, and Jahan Dotson to finally score some points in the fourth quarter.

The game-winning point came after a two-minute warning play in which Hurts completed a 61-yard catch-and-run with Goedert to New Orleans’ 4-yard line on third-and-16 after the tight end was left completely alone on the other side of the field.

Saquon Barkley, who threw the Eagles’ game-winning pass against the Atlanta Falcons on Monday that shocked Philly on the road, stormed into the end zone on the next play to give the Eagles the lead and scored two more points on a conversion play.
