Eagles WR suffers concussion against Saints

Wide receiver DeVonta Smith is out for the Philadelphia Eagles’ Week 3 game against the New Orleans Saints.

Smith was evaluated for a concussion after being hit by Saints rookie defensive tackle Khristian Boyd early in the fourth quarter. The 25-year-old receiver had caught a short pass and his forward momentum appeared to have been stopped before he was hit.

Boyd has come under some fire for the brutal hit, but not as much as Saints teammate Payton Turner; Turner appeared to lunge at the helmetless, prone Smith, drawing the ire of onlookers. Turner also appeared to spit on the ground near Smith, with some wondering if he had spit on the Eagles wide receiver.

The Eagles ruled Smith out of the game minutes after he left the field. Philadelphia will now be without its two best wide receivers – AJ Brown (hamstring) and Smith (concussion) – for at least the remainder of Sunday’s game.
