Domu Lab, which has hosted foodpreneur pop-ups such as Vietnamese restaurant Camille and currently Danilo’s Pasta Bar, will leave the East End Market this month.

In place of the market’s in-house kitchen, a new restaurant will be created by The Neighbors, the cocktail lounge that already occupies space on the second floor of the building.

The new restaurant, helmed by Mid Drive Dive chef Leah Cordova, will offer “colorful, healthy and shareable dishes” on its lunch and dinner menu, according to The Neighbors website.

“Chef Leah will take traditional dishes like a farmer’s salad or charcuterie platter and add her own unique twist to the ingredients or presentation,” the announcement said.

Chef Matt Hinckley of Hinckley Meats will assist Cordova as a culinary consultant.

The Neighbors plans to fill a “gap” in terms of healthy lunch and dinner options in the space, it said.

The East End Market on Corrine Drive in Audubon Park is a two-story “food hub” where local vendors and retailers sell goods in pop-up locations. The market is also the permanent home of ramen bar Domu.

Its current roster of about 15 vendors includes vegan restaurant Winter Park Biscuit Co., Japanese doughnut shop Dochi, barbecue restaurant Boxer & Clover, coffee roaster Lineage, vintage clothing store The Owl’s Attic and popular cookie shop Gideon’s Bakehouse.

East End Market has already seen location changes this year. Domu founder Sonny Nguyen announced he will open poke and wagyu restaurants Rion’s Ocean Room and Gyukatsu Rose, which are slated to open late this year or early 2025. The concepts will take over the space formerly occupied by Skyebird Juice Bar, which closed in July.

Domu Lab’s current pop-up owner, Danilo’s Pasta Bar, will have its last day on August 31. The Asian street food-influenced restaurant has not confirmed whether it will move to permanent premises outside the market, but restaurant owners Johnny and Jimmy Tung (Mills Market, Sorekara, The Foreigner) are reportedly looking for a permanent location.

Camille, the former Domu Lab resident, successfully moved from her space in East End Market to a permanent location in Baldwin Park in 2023.

The new restaurant, The Neighbours, will launch its full menu in late September and will serve lunch and dinner during full opening hours starting in October or November.
