ECU and Liberty football teams prepare for weekend clash in Lynchburg

GREENVILLE, NC (WNCT) — The ECU football team is back on the road and just suffered its first loss of the season, a close 21-19 loss to Appalachian State.

In Lynchburg, Virginia, the Pirates face an undefeated opponent, the Liberty Flames.

The Flames are coming off wins over Campbell, New Mexico State and UTEP. ECU players said they are ready to put last weekend’s loss behind them.

“The mood on the team was good. I think we managed to process this loss at today’s practice,” said ECU linebacker Zakye Barker. “That was the most important thing, to process this loss and get back on track with who we are and how we play our game.”

“It’s a big game, they have a really good running back and a really good quarterback and we have to keep them in check,” said ECU defensive back Isaiah Brown-Murray.

Liberty head coach Jamey Chadwell also commented on the game on Tuesday. “Our guys are excited, they know it’s a big game,” he said. “Just from the perspective that we have an opportunity to play against a team outside of the league that’s close to us, that we might recruit players against, that might have friends that go to school there, I mean, there’s so much there.”
