El Bandido fails with 58; Woody’s Cheesesteaks receives 100

ATLANTA, Georgia (Atlanta News First) – A Mexican barbecue restaurant on Euclid Avenue in Atlanta’s Little Five Points was grilled by the health department during its last routine inspection.

El Bandido failed with a score of 58 and a “U” for unsatisfactory. The report states that there were food scraps on the dining tables, rice and salsa were at unsafe temperatures, and there were several live and dead cockroaches in the facility.

Atlanta News First stopped by the restaurant to question management, but the business was closed, even though the sign outside the restaurant said “open.” A customer told us the business has been closed for days. Tall weeds have overgrown the back patio.

“I’m not extremely picky, but the food has never been that great. Also, the staff is only at skeleton staff and the building is big. My uncle and I talked about the fact that the building is big and the rent must be pretty high,” said customer Alex Boulet.

Now for an update from Midtown Atlanta. A week ago, the manager of the Sugar Factory on Peachtree Street said “everything was resolved” after failing an inspection with 54 points.

It turns out that not everything is resolved. The restaurant dropped to 49 during a re-inspection this week and was reprimanded for storing raw chicken next to steaks, burgers and tomatoes.

Woody’s Cheesesteaks on Irby Avenue in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood scored 100 points on their most recent health inspection. Congratulations, they are this week’s Golden Spatula Award winners. They’ve been at this location for five years, but Woody’s is actually an institution in the metro Atlanta area. They’ve been in business for 49 years, so they know how to serve quality cheesesteaks.

Let’s talk about what you can order on the menu. They have Chicken Philly, the traditional Philly with the Cheese Wiz, and that’s how you know it’s from Philadelphia, Italian sausage, and they serve wedges here. You can’t get those at any other place. They also have the Loaded Wedges, which is basically a Philly cheesesteak on the wedges. Man, that’s good!
