El Paso International Airport receives .6 million for modernization

El Paso International Airport received more than $10 million in federal funding as part of an initiative to modernize American airports.

On July 30, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) awarded $427 million to 245 airports in 39 states.

El Paso International Airport received $10.6 million to build a new general aviation (GA) apron and improve the existing apron pavement.

The funds come from the $25 billion Airport Infrastructure Grants (AIG) program that President Biden passed as part of his bipartisan infrastructure bill. The program is described as a “historic investment” in the country’s infrastructure. It will rebuild roads and bridges, modernize and expand public transit and rail, and upgrade ports and airports across the country.

According to the FAA, nearly $9 billion of the $15 billion in AIG funds was made available to airports across America.

US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg commented on the announcement as follows:

More Americans are flying this summer than ever before, and the Biden-Harris administration continues to invest in our nation’s airports to make travel more convenient for passengers. The funding we announced, made possible by the bipartisan infrastructure bill, will help airports across the country make the improvements needed to ensure safety and efficiency now and for years to come.
