This 1,548 square foot home at 935 East Ave. is listed for $2,700,000, according to the real estate listing.

The mansion sits on a 3.5-acre lot at the corner of East Avenue and Barrington Street, adjacent to Rochester’s popular Neighborhood of the Arts and Park Avenue. The massive mansion – located directly across from Hutchison House – is in the City of Rochester School District.

About the object

The mansion was built in 1913 by Rufus Sibley, co-owner of Sibley’s department store, for his daughter Elizabeth Sibley, who lived there until the mid-1950s. The property was donated to the Anglican Diocese of Rochester in 1954, which operated its offices and chapel there until the diocese sold the property in 2017.

The 11-bedroom, seven-bathroom mansion has an elegant, historic feel with original hand-crafted moldings, railings and hardwood floors. Some rooms are more modern and others offer a step back in time to the early 1900s. According to agent Steph Sanzotta of Ivy House Realty, the home has been renovated since it was last on the market but retains much of its original charm with unique features like secret doors and original safes in the home.

The property also includes an attached carriage house. The building is one of about 700 structures in the East Avenue Historic District, an area listed on the National Historic Register that stretches from Alexander Street almost to the Wegmans grocery store on East Avenue. The property’s assessed value is $1,317,600, according to city land records.
