Elon Musk’s former California estate, Gene Wilder’s house, is back on the market for $12.95 million.
musk financed 95% of Gene Wilder’s house when he sold it a few years ago. Wilder’s nephew Jordan Walker-Pearlman and his wife Elizabeth Hunter were able to purchase the house through financing. The property was sold for $7 million to Pearlman and Elizabeth Hunter, a screenwriter and television producer who has worked on hit series such as “Charmed” and “Empire.” Pearlman has been a director since 2015.
According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ)Gene Wilder’s home was hit with a payment demand letter last month. The Los Angeles County Department of Consumer and Business Services explained that the payment demand letter informs the recipient of the amount owed, including outstanding payments and foreclosure fees.
WSJ reported that Pearlman and his wife were behind on their $6.7 million loan from Elon Musk. The SpaceX CEO had given them four years to pay back the loan. The publication noted that Pearlman and his wife would not be able to keep up with payments because of the Hollywood strikes in 2023.
Musk submitted the demand for payment through an entity that Pearlman stressed was not filed in bad faith. Musk can seek a forced sale 90 days after the demand is served, but people familiar with the matter say the billionaire has no plans to force a sale.
“Elon gave us a magical opportunity. I have no complaints,” Pearlman said.
Gene Wilder is best known for his portrayal of the title character in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Elon Musk bought Wilder’s iconic home and sold it in 2020.
In 2020, the Tesla CEO announced that he would no longer own a home and would sell almost all of his material possessions. Musk had only one condition: “I own Gene Wilder’s old house. It cannot be torn down and must not lose any of its soul.”
