Employee of a jewelry store in Dearborn shoots at masked robbers

Employee of a jewelry store in Dearborn shoots at masked robbers

Masked robbers held up a Dearborn jewelry store at gunpoint last week until an employee fired in their direction, police said.

The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on August 7 at a jewelry store in the 7000 block of Schaefer Road, according to a Facebook post from Dearborn Police.

Two masked men entered the store with a rifle and ordered employees and customers to lie on the ground, police said. One masked suspect then threatened everyone with a gun while the other ransacked the store and stuffed items into a bag.

An employee eventually fired several shots at the robbers, after which they fled, police said.

No customers or employees were injured in the incident, but it is not known whether the robbers were hurt, police said.

Police believe the couple drove away in a black sedan, possibly a Mazda 3 (2011-2013), with paint peeling off the hood and trunk.

In a statement in the press release, Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin urged the public to come forward with any information regarding the case.

“The Dearborn Police Department will vigorously investigate this crime and use all available resources to bring the suspects to justice,” he said.
