Eric Roberts sends his condolences to his sister Julia Roberts.

The actor from “The Dark Knight” spoke about the public dispute with his fellow actor and sibling in his new memoir “Runaway Train” and, according to People, also wrote a “public apology” to Julia Roberts.

Named after the 1985 film for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe and an Oscar alongside Jon Voight, Roberts’ memoir “Runaway Train: Or, The Story of My Life So Far” was released on Monday.

According to the source, the season 33 star of “Dancing with the Stars” describes an “unsafe” childhood with his parents Walter Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. Roberts said his father was a “crazy person” and jealous of his career. After his parents divorced, Eric Roberts lived with his father, while Julia Roberts lived with his mother, who remarried.

Roberts describes his early career moves, including “Runaway Train” and how he turned down the role of Jesus in 1988’s “The Last Temptation of Christ,” which was also the last opportunity he was given to work with legendary director Martin Scorsese. Elsewhere, he describes how his drug abuse, a car accident in 1981 and the days-long coma that followed affected his memory. It was also around this time that Julia Roberts began her acting career and later surpassed his fame, eliciting comments from Eric Roberts such as, “If it weren’t for me, there would be no Julia Roberts.”

“I hope Julia will accept this public apology,” writes 68-year-old Eric Roberts, according to People. “That was a stupid statement.”

His drug addiction led to a difficult relationship with Julia Roberts, 56, and his half-sister Nancy Motes. Eric Roberts wrote that it was “dangerous to be around me.” However, the “biggest consequence” of his drug use was the loss of custody of his daughter Emma Roberts. The custody battle led to a falling out with Julia Roberts, who sided with Emma Roberts’ mother Kim Cunningham. In his memoirs, Eric Roberts admits that it was ultimately the right move.

“I envision myself remaining Julia’s brother and Emma Roberts’ father for the rest of my life,” he writes, according to the outlet. “I want to make amends by stepping aside with pride and dignity. That’s one of the reasons I wrote the book.”

Earlier this year, Eric Roberts spoke in an interview on the podcast “Still Here Hollywood” about how he “can’t talk about” his sister or daughter. When host and entertainment journalist Steve Kmetko asked how his sister was doing, the actor replied, “You’ll have to ask her.”

“I love my sister, but I can’t talk about her,” Roberts said on the April 1 episode. “And besides, my daughter told me not to talk about her, but I do. I’m not supposed to talk about either of them, but I do.”

Later in the episode, when asked which actors he admires, the Oscar nominee replied: “I am in love with my daughter’s current work. I can’t believe how great she has turned out. I am so proud of her that I can hardly see straight.”
