Estate auction of sports memorabilia takes place in Williamsville

Estate auction of sports memorabilia takes place in Williamsville

WILLIAMSVILLE, NY (WKBW) — You can take home a piece of sports history.

There will be a sports memorabilia estate sale in Williamsville August 22-24 where you can score some amazing Bills items you may not find anywhere else.

Hundreds of people flock to the sale. Nearly 30,000 items are for sale, including helmets, sports cards, posters and more.

Some fans went home with a Buffalo Sabres helmet, a poster of the Buffalo Bills’ “Bermuda Triangle” and plaques featuring the Bills’ 1964 AFL championship team.

Dave Schultz and Greg Roncone purchased some of these pieces to add some nostalgia to their homes.

“It reminds me of my childhood,” Schultz said. “I was born in 1958, they won that in 1965, when we were just starting to get interested in sports and stuff. It just reminds us of childhood.”

“Plus, we now have stuff to store in our man cave,” Roncone added.

Other Bills fans were also present on the first day of the sale, wanting to purchase something from the glory days.

Paul Zynda bought some trading cards from the 1991 team with Jim Kelly and Thurman Thomas.

“I know we’ve lost four in a row, which is a big blow when you’re that young,” Zynda said. “Now I hope we can continue our run to at least get to the Super Bowl one last time before I leave this earth. Hopefully we win and we’re not all the way to the right.”

For Elizabeth Earl and Katie Beakman, this legacy is especially important. They say their father William spent most of his life collecting all of these memorabilia. He died last summer at the age of 77.

His family says they have spent months going through his collection and are now ready to make it available to others.

“He just loved his collections and we wanted to make sure we honored them as best as we could by taking the time to do so,” Beakman said. “I think we’ve touched every single piece in this house. It’s hard to let go, but knowing that people are going to love it as much as he did or had it makes us feel really great.”

Williams’ passion is to inspire other fans to start their own collections, like Nino Mancuso Jr.

“We’re going to do exactly what the owner of that stuff did,” Mancuso Jr. said. “We’re going to keep it, we’re going to collect it, we’re going to cherish it like William did. I think we’re going to collect Josh Allen (memorabilia) like everyone collects Jim Kelly (memorabilia), so I really think he’s the right one.”

Now community members are encouraging others to stop by and look around.

“You pay much less than in retail,” Schultz said.

“My dad told me that happiness is the best thing you can be and fun is the best thing you can have,” said Nino Mancuso Sr. “Today we did both.”

You can stop by the estate sale on August 23rd and 24th from 10am to 4pm at 12 Hidden Ridge Common, Williamsville, New York 14221.
