Exotic meat sold illegally in New York State – charges filed against business

New York State authorities conducted an undercover investigation and discovered exotic meat being illegally sold in a butcher shop.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced the illegal sale of crocodile meat in its recent “Environmental Conservation Police on Patrol” campaign.

The latest report also highlighted that rangers responded to six snake complaints in upstate New York.

The DEC responded to six separate snake complaints in one county. Snakes were spotted mating near a home. CLICK HERE to learn more.

Now to the crocodile meat that was “illegally offered for sale”.

The DEC recently responded to a tip from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and responded to a call from a specialty store in Lower Manhattan.

ECOs Ableson and Keegan also joined forces with the New York City Police Department (NYPD) to investigate the alleged illegal sale of crocodile meat from the unnamed specialty store.

At the store, “undercover investigators” discovered “dried crocodile meat” for sale and “confirmed that the meat was being sold without the required permits,” according to the DEC.

According to the DEC, “special permits” are required in New York to sell alligator, crocodile and caiman products.

Personally, I have never heard of anyone eating crocodile meat. It turns out that some people enjoy it because it is considered a “healthy alternative” to chicken or fish.

The authorities confiscated the crocodile meat and charged the store with illegally selling crocodile meat.

The store faces a fine of up to $5,000.

The Food Safety and Inspection Service of the US Department of Agriculture publishes a Public health warning for ready-to-eat meat and poultry products throughout New York.

This meat was imported illegally from the Philippines. The Philippines is a country not authorized to export meat and poultry products to the United States. FSIS continues to investigate how these products entered the country.

There is a health warning for the following products:

150 g can of “Argentina BRAND CORNED BEEF”.

175 g can of “Argentina BRAND CORNED BEEF”.

260 g can of “Argentina BRAND CORNED BEEF”.

150 g can of “PUREFOODS CORNED BEEF”.

210 g can of “PUREFOODS CORNED BEEF”.

150g tin of CHUNKEE CORNED BEEF.

190 g can of “CHUNKEE CORNED BEEF”.

7.43 oz jar of Lady’s Choice Chicken Spread.
