Actuals Using advanced 3D printing technology, a facade was created for a recently renovated BOSS store in Istanbul.

Developed in collaboration with the Ippolito Fleitz Group, the façade uses 3D printed waste materials to “create an innovative and circular shop front.”

Inspired by textile weaving, the façade was designed to “translate the fine weft and warp threads of BOSS garments into a 3D-printed architectural structure.” Designed to cover 73 square meters, it consists of 136 uniquely printed pieces that interlock and help regulate temperature by providing shade.

The project came about after Ippolito Fleitz Group approached Aectual with the idea of designing an open, graphic skin for the building that would act as a large sunshade and cover almost the entire storefront. Ippolito Fleitz Group then designed a custom pattern inspired by intricate textile designs. Aectual produced several 3D printed models to ensure the final panels met all design specifications.

After the printed panels have served their purpose on the facade of the BOSS store in Istanbul, they are sent back to Aectual, shredded and reprinted into new products. Aectual also used recycled post-industrial polypropylene for the additive manufacturing of the panels.

Earlier this year, Aectual and Lenovo unveiled 3D-printed furniture made from e-waste such as laptops and server components.
