School started in Fairfield on Tuesday.
It affects high schools as well as certain elementary and middle schools. And these signs are already posted on streets near many of these schools.
Fairfield also has cameras on its school buses. Just like in Bridgeport, where drivers have been caught passing school buses with their flashing lights on. State law prohibits drivers from passing within 10 feet in either direction of a school bus that has stopped with its red flashing lights on. The violation is punishable by a $450 fine. The new speed limits in Fairfield will be enforced on school days in designated school zones just before, during and just after school hours.
If you don’t see a sign with the speed limit yet, they’re almost finished putting them up. Here’s a full list of the roads and schools affected:

The Fairfield Police Department is urging all drivers to obey these new speed limits and help keep our students safe.
