Fairfield vitamin store reopens after truck crashes into store, owner says

FAIRFIELD, Ohio (WXIX) – The owner of Mother Earth in Fairfield is working to get business back up and running after a driver drove through the front of the store on Sunday.

“I was pretty shocked. I wouldn’t have expected the car to be so badly damaged if I had only seen the back of the truck,” said Pam Campbell, owner of Mother Earth. “I thought it was a small SUV, but it was a huge truck with dual tires that had gone right through, and when I got in, the whole place was destroyed.”

Campbell says the Chevy truck was in the Burger King parking lot across the street when she believes the driver had a medical emergency.

The truck crossed the street, knocked down a light pole and crashed into the front of the vitamin store on Pleasant Avenue around 2:30 p.m.

Campbell says she is usually alone in her store, but was out of town on Sunday when the accident happened.

“I would have been here,” Campbell explained. “I would have been here no matter what. We usually come after church, so it was a good thing I wasn’t here.”

Campbell’s daughter, Stacy Kendall, says the store is closed on Sundays, but family members are always working there and stocking supplies.

“It’s devastating, but God knew she wasn’t supposed to be here that day. That no one was here,” Kendall says.

The damage to Mother Earth is enormous.

The truck knocked over shelves, ripped apart lamps and damaged a significant amount of inventory.

Campbell says her clients have stood by her since the community learned of the accident.

“They’ve been here today asking what they can do,” Campbell explained. “They’re more like family than customers.”

Kendall says her mother is an important figure in the community and does everything humanly possible to help everyone who comes into the store.

“You see how much she’s impacted people’s lives,” says Kendall. “It’s just wonderful. They want to help her.”

Campbell says many customers want to know when the store will open, but are currently in the very early stages of the insurance process.

She assures everyone that Mother Earth will return.

“I’ll be out, but I’ll rebuild and be as strong as ever,” Campbell says.

The driver of the Chevy truck was taken to the hospital.

The police are still investigating the accident.
