Family wants body of New Jersey woman found in Bessemer back home

BESSEMER, Alabama (WBRC) – The mother of a New Jersey woman whose body was found in Bessemer is asking the community for help in bringing her beloved daughter home.

Aanissah Muhammad said she has no idea why her daughter Miyell Johnson was found dead in Alabama.

Johnson’s body was found on the side of Mountain Road in Bessemer last weekend.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said an autopsy found no evidence of trauma or foul play, but the cause of death was still is being investigated.

Many people, including her siblings, loved her dearly.

The mother said her daughter was caring and willing to help anyone who needed help.

“She was just a real little treasure and the world has truly lost a good person,” Muhammad said.

She misses her silly spirit and remembers how she used to hop around the house.

“She can’t rest,” said the mother. “We want to give her peace. It feels like she’s calling me and telling me to take her home. In that sweet voice she always spoke with.”

Now the family has this GoFundMe to give Johnson a dignified burial.

A funeral date has not yet been set as her body is still in Alabama.
