FaZe makes it to the semifinals of the CoD MWIII event of the Esports World Cup with a sweep

The Atlanta FaZe swept past the Boston Breach with a 3-0 win in the quarterfinals of the Call of Duty Modern Warfare III event at the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Saturday.

Atlanta won Rio Hardpoint 250-209 before winning Invasion Search & Destroy 6-3 and Invasion Control 3-1. FaZe will advance to the semifinals where they will face OpTic Gaming, who defeated Cloud9 3-1.

The $1.8 million tournament began with 16 teams divided into four groups to compete in a double-elimination, best-of-five format. The top two teams in each group advanced to a single-elimination playoff, where best-of-five matches will be played until the best-of-seven final on Sunday.

The winning side will receive $600,000 and 1,000 Esports World Cup Club Points. The runner-up will receive $320,000 and 600 points.

After two losses on 6 Star – 250-149 on Hardpoint and 6-1 on Search & Destroy – Cloud9 stayed alive with a 3-0 shutout on Karachi Control. However, OpTic responded with a 250-239 win on Rio Hardpoint to advance to the semifinals.

In the other quarterfinal matches on Saturday, 100 Thieves and Vancouver Surge beat their respective opponents 3-2.

100 Thieves fell behind 1-2 in their match against Toronto Ultra, but recovered to win Sub Base Hardpoint 250-201 and Karachi Search & Destroy 6-4.

Vancouver was also down 1-2, but then defeated the Carolina Royals Ravens on Rio Hardpoint (250-113) and Invasion Search & Destroy (6-2) to complete the comeback.

The tournament ends on Sunday with the semifinals and the grand final:

–100 Thieves vs. Vancouver Surge (semi-finals)

–Winner of OpTic Gaming/Atlanta FaZe vs. Winner of 100 Thieves/Vancouver Surge (Grand Finale)
