FC Barcelona agrees to Araujo sale, reports SPORT

FC Barcelona has agreed to the sale of its right-back Julian Araujo. SPORT Journalist Toni Juanmarti relied on anonymous sources in his reporting on the developments on social media.

Just 24 hours ago, on Friday, Barca announced that it had bought its former youth player Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig on a six-year contract until mid-2030.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the agreement between the Catalans and the Germans for the 2024 Euro winner Olmo consists of 60 million dollars (55 million euros) in fixed money, which is due to the latter, and another 7.6 million dollars (7 million euros), which is also possible in variable amounts.

Saturday, however, seemed to have been a day of sales as Jean-Clair Todibo’s move to West Ham was made official.

The Frenchman’s last permanent employer, Nice, will of course pocket the lion’s share of the $43.7 million (€40 million) that the Premier League club is willing to shell out after the defender completes a season on loan.

However, since Barca included a 20% sell-on clause when they sold Todibo to Nice in 2021, Barca should later receive a very welcome $8.7 million (€8 million) from the sale.

However, it seems there is more money to be made immediately, with Juanmarti tweeting that Barca have reached an agreement with Bournemouth for California-born Mexican international Julian Araujo.

The Mexican is no longer training with the first team on the instructions of Hansi Flick, Juanmarti adds, as a $10.9 million (€10 million) deal was concluded in recent days.

Araujo was bought from LA Galaxy to Barca in January 2023, but did not play in the current season. Xavi Hernandez’s team finished the season as La Liga winners.

The following season he moved to Las Palmas on loan, but it was believed that he could finally become a first-team player under Xavi’s successor Flick.

Ultimately, however, Araujo failed to impress during the recent pre-season friendly tour of the USA, as players such as Alex Valle took the lead at right-back, a position that Jules Kounde can also play.
