FEMA disaster relief centers in southeast Missouri will close; application deadline for assistance ends September 23

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) – The deadline to apply for FEMA assistance for storms and flooding May 19-27 in southeast Missouri is approaching.

The deadline to apply for FEMA assistance is Monday, September 23.

This applies to those affected by the severe weather in Butler, Carter, New Madrid, Ripley, Scott and Stoddard counties in the Heartland, as well as in Barry, Howell, Shannon and Texas counties.

Under FEMA’s Individuals and Households Program, disaster assistance is available to eligible homeowners, renters and self-employed business owners. Insured individuals are also encouraged to apply. FEMA says these individuals may be eligible for federal grants to cover uninsured losses.

Other September 23 disaster relief deadlines include the Missouri Department of Labor Division’s Disaster Unemployment Assistance and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Physical Loans. The deadline for Economic Injury Loans is Monday, April 23, 2025.

FEMA recommends having the following information ready when applying:

  • Current phone number
  • Address at the time of the disaster and the current address
  • Social Security number, if available
  • General list of damages and losses
  • If insured, the insurance number or the representative and/or the company name

In addition to the registration deadline, the Disaster Recovery Centers in Doniphan and Sikeston will be permanently closed on Friday, September 20 at 6 p.m.
