The Indiana Fever will finish the regular season in the nation’s capital against the Washington Mystics. The Fever (20-19), who will be looking to finish at least .500 for the first time since their last postseason appearance in 2016, have secured the 6th seed in the WNBA playoffs (read more here).
Record-holders Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell have scored nearly the same number of points this season, and both shone (Clark scored 35, Mitchell 30) in Indiana’s thrilling home finale, a 110-109 victory over the Dallas Wings. Mitchell averaged 19.6 points on 40.2% 3-point shooting and Clark 19.5 on 34.1% 3-point shooting. Aliyah Boston contributed 14.1 points and 9.0 rebounds and NaLyssa Smith 10.4 points and 7.2 rebounds.
The Mystics (13-26) – who are battling with the Chicago Sky and Atlanta Dream for the last playoff spot – are led by Ariel Atkins (14.7 points, 1.5 steals), Brittney Sykes (12.5 points), Stefanie Dolson (9.9 points, 47.7% on 3-shots, 5.1 rebounds), Aaliyah Edwards (7.6 points, 5.6 rebounds) and Julie Vanloo (7.5 points, 4.4 assists).
The Fever are 2-1 against the Mystics this season, with all matches played before the Olympic break.

HALFTIME: Mystics 52, Fever 45
Would you believe that Indiana led 18-2 at one point? Washington is playing for its playoff life while the Fever are stuck in sixth place and playing for nothing in tonight’s final game of the regular season.
IndyStar insider Chloe Peterson believes we saw the last of Kelsey Mitchell tonight, although Chloe thinks it was just a pre-playoff precaution.
Caitlin Clark has 8 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds. NaLyssa Smith leads the Fever with 11 points. Aliyah Boston has 8 points on 3 of 4 shooting.
With Mitchell on the bench, we’ll see more of Kristy Wallace. Who knows? Maybe we’ll even see Grace Berger.
Kelsey Mitchell’s injury? Doesn’t look too serious
IndyStar insider Chloe Peterson is in DC and says there’s no need to panic. With the Fever already in the No. 6 seed for the playoffs, there’s no reason to risk it. 41-39, Mystics in the final minutes of the first half.
Although Mitchell currently wears a knee brace on her left knee, she appears to be able to stand and walk without any problems.

Mystics 34, Fever 31, 5:44 2nd quarter
The momentum has completely shifted to the Mystics’ side. Once again, there’s nothing at stake for Fever, so maybe we’ll see some of that during this switch.
Caitlin Clark is back in the game (6 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists).
Fever 24, Mystics 22, end of 1st quarter
The Mystics finished the quarter on a 20-4 run after trailing 18-2. Indiana was in a tight spot, but the Mystics woke up.
NaLyssa Smith leads the Fever with eight points. Caitlin Clark has six points, four rebounds and two assists.
The Fever have secured 6th place, so we probably won’t see many of their regular players tonight.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Mitchell misses the game, if only as a precautionary measure.

Fever is in top form early, leads 20-7, 4:12 1Q
So much for taking their foot off the gas in the final game of the regular season. Indiana took an 18-2 lead with 5:02 left in the first quarter.
Caitlin Clark has already made two 3-pointers (has six points) and NaLyssa Smith has a perfect 3-of-3 shooting percentage from the field with eight points.
