Fever’s Caitlin Clark gets punched in the eye by her Sun rival during a playoff game

Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark was hit in the eye by Connecticut Sun guard DiJonai Carrington during her first playoff game on Sunday.

Clark attempted a pass to teammate Aliyah Boston in the first quarter while Carrington was covering her. Clark found Boston, but Carrington poked Clark in the eye while attempting to block the pass. No foul was called, but it took Clark a second to regain her composure.

Clark, who was named AP WNBA Rookie of the Year, and Carrington had some tense moments during the regular season. During one of their duels, Carrington taunted Clark for drawing a foul.

Carrington also called Fever fans the “meanest” in the WNBA in August after she received harsh criticism for some of her mentions of X.

Clark finished the first half against the Sun with three points and 0 of 6 three-point shots.

The Fever were in the playoffs for the first time since the 2016 season. Clark’s emergence as one of the league’s best players helped Indiana tremendously. It was the first time since the 2015 season that the team had won at least 20 games.

Connecticut had a 28-12 record in the regular season and a 3-1 record against Indiana.
