Five dead in Nassau County home – NBC New York

Nearly a week after the death of a 95-year-old Long Island woman, police searched her home to investigate the deaths of five people.

Nassau County police said five bodies were discovered in the Syosset home on Sunday when officers rushed to the house near Wyoming Court around 12 p.m.

Police said they found a man outside the house who had inflicted a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The other four victims were all found inside the house.

Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder told Newsday that the weekend deaths appeared to be linked to a subsequent murder-suicide.

“We know that the person on the front lawn shot himself,” Ryder told the outlet.

As Newsday first reported, the house was apparently the address of Theresa Martha DeLucia, who died on August 19. The woman from Syosset was buried on Friday at Calverton National Cemetery.

A longtime neighbor confirmed that members of her family had gathered last week, some of whom had traveled from out of state.

“A tragedy, really a tragedy for the family,” Wendy Paisner told News 4. “All I saw was that they drove up and were there to attend the mother’s funeral, pay their respects and then sell the house.”
