Flea market raises $2,000 for Mercer County VFW – WRMJ.COM

Flea market raises ,000 for Mercer County VFW – WRMJ.COM

This weekend, the 1st Annual VFW Post and Auxiliary #1571 Flea Market was very well attended. It was held during Antiques Day in Aledo at the VFW Mercer County. A wide variety of toys, books, clothing, collectibles and much more were sold.

Donations for the event came from community members. Suzy DeKeyrel helped organize the event and told WRMJ News that sales raised over $2,000.

“All we got was a donation. So we didn’t pay for anything, which was great, and people actually came to bring their donations, and we did it as a kind of fundraiser for the VFW post and the Auxiliary. We work together, but we’re two separate entities. So we raised over $2,000, which was great. You know, some of the things we do with that money are Christmas baskets for veterans and families and scholarships for students. We give money to the school district for milk money for the kids. We lay wreaths at our cemetery, accept funeral dinners — a lot of people come to the funeral dinners there and we don’t charge for it. It’s all a donation.”

All proceeds will go equally to the post office and aid organizations. Another flea market is planned for next year.
