KEARNEY – With SkyWest Airlines beginning operations at Kearney Regional Airport on Nov. 1, residents there can now begin booking their future flights.
Kearney City Manager Brenda Jensen told the City Council during its meeting on Tuesday, August 27, that passengers can now book their seats through the Kearney Regional Airport.
SkyWest will operate 50 regional passenger aircraft with 12 nonstop round-trip flights per week to Denver.
Jensen said there will be two daily flights on five days, Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, while there will be only one flight on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The first departure from Kearney Regional Airport to Denver will be on November 1st at 6:30 p.m.
Kearney Regional Airport has not done so; travelers who received notification that their Kearney-Denver flights on Denver Air Connect scheduled to depart on Nov. 1 have been canceled will automatically have their tickets reissued by United Airlines, which operates SkyWest.
“This notice was sent to ticket holders because the SkyWest schedule was removed from the booking system. However, United is currently working to upload the Denver Air Connection schedule. Once this process is complete, tickets will be released for travel from Kearney Regional Airport,” the Kearney Regional Airport said in a statement.
SkyWest was the previous airline for the City of Kearney and experienced increasing passenger numbers until the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.
In 2022, SkyWest announced that it intends to end government-subsidized air service at Kearney and 28 other airports across the United States.
Denver Air Connection has signed a two-year contract from November 2022 to October 2024 to provide EAS service to Kearney.
SkyWest has received approval for a three-year contract.
Kearney Mayor Stan Clouse commented, “We are pleased to welcome SkyWest back as our EAS carrier. They have provided excellent service to Kearney before and we expect them to continue to do so under this new contract.”
