The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood warning for Barnstable and Nantucket counties, effective Friday morning through Friday afternoon. Eastern Plymouth County is also affected by the warning.

A high wave warning has also been issued for the same locations, effective from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday. Dangerous conditions for swimming and surfing, as well as localized beach erosion, are expected, according to the National Weather Service.

According to Coastal Flood Watch, some coastal roads could become impassable at high tide on Friday, which is around 2 p.m. in the Cape Cod area.

The greatest risk of moderate flooding is along the Plymouth coast and the north shore of Cape Cod along Cape Cod Bay from Sandwich to Dennis, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the warning, “many roads near Nantucket Harbor will be impassable due to 12 to 24 inches of water, affecting access to ferry terminals.”

Additionally, “shallow flooding less than one foot deep is affecting lower lying areas in Provincetown, primarily near the airport and Race Point Road. In Truro, flooding up to one foot deep is affecting lower lying areas near Pamet Harbor and along the Pamet River,” the coastal flood warning states.
