ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Democratic National Convention may have ended Thursday, but Florida delegates, including USF professor Judith Ann McLauchlan, will remember the experience for a long time.
She said she would never forget this four-day experience.
As she returned to her Madiera Beach home on Friday night, she described each day of the convention as better than the previous, not only because of her duties as a delegate but also because of the people she heard and saw speak there – from Oprah Winfrey to Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
“I have never seen the energy, enthusiasm and unity behind a nomination that we felt with Kamala Harris and Coach Walz,” she said.
This was McLauchlan’s eighth convention, and she said she had never attended one in previous years.
McLauchlan said she has been fully supporting Harris since she dropped out of the race.
“The energy in this area, thousands of delegates from all over the country, it was just electric,” she said. “I’ve never experienced anything like it in all the other conventions I’ve been to. We’ll always say this is the most important election of our lifetimes, and we mean it … but this is truly the most important election of my lifetime.”
With all the memorabilia she brought home and the continued energy of the convention, McLauchlan is confident about what the future holds.
