KNOXVILLE, Tennessee – Food City announced the results of this year’s “Sneaker” campaign by donating over half a million dollars to Breakthrough T1D.

Breakthrough T1D, formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, has grown into the leading research and advocacy organization for type 1 diabetes since its founding in 1970.

During the sneaker drive, which ran for four weeks in May, customers could donate to Breakthrough T1D to purchase paper sneakers that would be displayed in the store, with all proceeds raised going to the organization.

“Diabetes is a serious issue facing many of our employees, loyal customers and their families, and we are proud to partner with Breakthrough T1D to find a cure for juvenile diabetes,” said Steven C. Smith, President and CEO of Food City. “Thanks to the generosity of our loyal customers and employees, Food City continues to be the largest supporter of Breakthrough T1D in the East Tennessee market, raising over $5.1 million over the past decade.”
