Food Truck Wednesdays return to MLK Commons – Northern Star

DeKALB – Food Truck Wednesday, an NIU tradition, started at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at MLK Commons.

From 11am to 2pm, no less than 12 different food trucks were set up on Normal Road for students to purchase their groceries from. Many other activities, including games and music, were offered by the Campus Activities Board.

Jennifer Groce, Director of Community Engaged Partnerships, explained what to expect from the event and what fun activities will be offered.

“Every week we have a different menu with 10 to 12 vendors, every week. So you can expect a variety of food trucks, plus you’ll see the Campus Activities Board here with games, fun activities and music,” Groce said. “Sometimes we have sporting events here and our mascot. Financial aid provides some information, things like that, some resources, but mainly you can expect a great atmosphere, amazing food and just the feeling of really being on a college campus and enjoying life as a Huskie.”

Near the CAB table, people were able to meet Mission III, NIU’s husky.

Parth Chokshi, a final year sports management student, explained why he likes Food Truck Wednesday.

“I’ve been coming here since Food Truck Wednesdays started. One of my friends is one of the main people responsible for it and I’ve been coming here every time since. The food is good and I like it a lot.”

Delilah Ipina, a first-year computer science student, said this was her first time participating in Food Truck Wednesdays.

“I think it’s really nice. I’ve never seen some of these food trucks here before, so I think it will be interesting to try some new things,” Ipina said.

Some of the food trucks available this week were Kona Ice Creaman ice cream truck with a wide variety of flavors where people can mix and match the flavors, Have Calzonian Italian truck with a speciality in Calzone and Toasted cheesea truck that puts a new twist on the classic grilled cheese.
