Football: Minnesota Vikings legend Chuck Foreman hosts fan meeting in Alexandria – Alexandria Echo Press

ALEXANDRIA – Legendary Minnesota Vikings running back Chuck Foreman stopped by Walmart in Alexandria on Friday night to meet with fans.

Foreman signed and sold Vikings memorabilia from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network. For more information about the Children’s Miracle Network, visit https://childrensmiraclenetworkhospitals.org/.

Friday’s meet and greet and memorabilia sale featured jerseys, hats (adult and child), hoodies, full-size footballs, mini footballs, a cone, t-shirts, full-size helmets, signs, mini helmets, a copy of Sports Illustrated with Chuck Foreman on the cover, Bud Grant and Chuck Foreman bobbleheads, 5×7 and 8×10 print photos of Chuck Foreman, a comic book print, Chuck Foreman football cards and merchandise signed by Foreman that people brought in for signing. All items purchased were inspected and signed by Foreman.

Foreman, nicknamed “The Spin Doctor,” originally from Frederick, Maryland, played college football for the University of Miami (Florida) from 1969 to 1972 and was selected 12th overall by the Vikings in the 1973 NFL Draft.

Foreman was the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 1973 and the UPI NFC Offensive Player of the Year in 1976.

Foreman was a key player for the Vikings. He, Hall of Fame quarterback Fran Tarkenton and the tough defensive line known as the “Purple People Eaters” led the Vikings to appearances in Super Bowl VIII, Super Bowl XI and Super Bowl XI.

Foreman made the Pro Bowl five years in a row from 1973 to 1978, was selected to the All-Pro second team in 1974, 1976 and 1977, and was named to the All-Pro first team in 1975.

Foreman was the NFL’s best pass catcher in 1975, with 73 passes.

In his eight NFL seasons (seven with the Vikings and one with the New England Patriots), Foreman rushed for 5,950 yards and 53 touchdowns. He caught 350 passes and had 3,156 receiving yards and 23 touchdown receptions.

In 2010, Foreman was named one of the 50 greatest Vikings of all time.

Foreman was named to the Minnesota Vikings’ 25th and 40th anniversary team.

Foreman is a member of the Minnesota Vikings Ring of Honor.

Foreman holds the NFL single-season record for most games (five) with a rushing and a receiving touchdown.

In the NFL record books, Foreman’s nine touchdowns are tied with Marshall Faulk, who scored the most touchdowns in a season as a 10-touchdown rusher.

Foreman holds several Vikings franchise records:

  • Touchdowns in a season – 22
  • Number of touchdowns by a running back in a season: 9 (tied with Bill Brown)
  • Most consecutive seasons with at least one receiving and one rushing touchdown – 6 (tied with Ted Brown)
  • Career playoff rushes – 229
  • Career playoff rushing yards – 860
  • Career playoff rushing touchdowns – 7th
